Sir Roger De Trumpington c. 1289, is buried in the church of Trumpington, in Cambridgeshire, Great Britain. Sir Roger is portrayed in armor of the Surcoat period. His head rests upon a great tilting helm. At the apex of the helm is a staple to which the cointisse (a silk scarf, originally worn over the armor as a lady’s favor was attached.) Sir Roger participated in the last crusade in 1270. We know that he returned from the crusade as his name appears on a list of knights in a tournament at Windsor in 1278. Of particular notice is his shield, which has trumpets on it, a play on his name.
