This French Hood has been made using proper millenary techniques. The base is covered with lush velvet and appropriate weight wire has been added to the top and bottom. I have also added numerous acrylic cabochons set on filigrees for the top billiment (the design matches a number of my necklace designs) with 8 mm Imported Czech Glass pearls along the bottom. The center is adorned with 25 by 18 mm acrylic cabochons and are set in matching filigree settings.
Although I try to make my items as historically accurate as possible, I believe that there are some modern things that make our lives easier. While traditional hoods were attached with ties under the chin, I personally find that that very uncomfortable. So I make my Hoods to tie in the back at the hairline. Also, usually Black Velvet was used for the veil. I use black silk elegance because it is lighter weight and not as hot!
