This French Hood has been made using proper millenary techniques. The base is covered with lush velvet and appropriate weight wire has been added to the top and bottom. Both billiments have metallic trim with 8 mm Imported Czech Glass pearls sewn on. The center is adorned with acrylic cabochons in filligree settings that coordinate with many of my jewelry pieces.
Although I try to make my items as historically accurate as possible, I believe that there are some modern things that make our lives easier. While traditional hoods were attached with ties under the chin, I personally find that that very uncomfortable. So I make my Hoods to tie in the back at the hairline. Also, usually Black Velvet was used for the veil. I use black silk elegance because it is lighter weight and not as hot!
