Lady Alice Hyde c. 1568 was the daughter of Sir Thomas Essex of Lamboune, Berkshire and the wife of William Hyde. Alice had 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls. This brass is notable for Alice’s dress. It is elegant with its brocade under the outer skirt. Alice is also wearing the Paris hood. This particular headpiece is most known as the Mary Queen of Scots headdress. Alice Hyde’s life spanned very uneasy and eventful years of British History from the reign of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Lady Jane Grey, Mary I and finally the first decade of Elizabeth I reign.
This lovely rubbing measures approximately 12 by 26 inches. It arrive ready for mounting and framing
